How To Quickly Start A Podcast

#1 Come Up With Your Idea
Why are you starting a podcast? What is your podcast about? What is your podcast’s name?

#2 Choose Your Podcast Format
What is the format of your podcast? Interview (Most common), Solo Commentary, Scripted or Storytelling.

Approximately how long will each episode be? 15 – 30 minutes (Most common). How often will you publish new episodes? Daily, 2 episodes a week, 1 episode a week (Most common) or 1 episode every two-weeks?

#3 The Best Equipment/Programs to use
I use the Rodecaster Pro with Shure SM58 mic with mic socks worth approx. $1100. If you can’t afford that it might be as simple as recording using your smartphone on the voice memo app or an app I like to use is AVR. If you want to record straight into your computer there are a few good USB mics out there, I prefer the Rode Nt-1.

You can edit your podcast using free programs like Audacity, Garage Band or if you’re able to pay – Adobe Audition is fantastic. Once you finish editing, export your podcast to any of the following Podcasts hosts.

Podbean, Buzzsprout, Libsyn, Simplecast or others (just Google it). You’ll have to sign up to one of these too. Most of them have a free option, or paid if you want to access more features. Complete the details about your podcast on this platform and be specific about the category you chose.

#4 Get Into Apple Podcasts
Create artwork for your podcast on Photoshop or Canva. It must be 3000px by 3000px. Write your show description. Publish your first episode or podcast trailer. Submit your podcast to each of these directories: Apple Podcasts, Google, Podcasts/Play, Spotify, Stitcher and TuneIn. For directions, just Google ‘How to submit my podcast to ’

#5 Launch Your New Podcast!
Choose your launch date, Make this the same day of the week as you’ll normally release episodes. Share your podcast with family and friends. Ask them to subscribe, listen, and give you an honest rating in Apple Podcasts.
